Giving Goes Glam Event Raises Funds for Wyomissing Area Education Foundation’s West Reading Elementary Center Technology Enhancement
The Giving Goes Glam Fashion Show, sponsored by the L.O.V.E. Team of West Reading, raised $13,000 to support Wyomissing Area Education Foundation’s West Reading Elementary Center Technology Enhancement on Wednesday, October 5, 2015, at its 5th annual Fall into Fashion event.
Over 200 people attended the sold out fashion show at the Neag Planetarium of the Reading Public Museum. Attendees enjoyed viewing the best of West Reading’s boutiques and shoppes on the runway, raffles, live auctions, and refreshments.
Donations supporting West Reading Elementary Center Technology Enhancement will be utilized to create a “Makerspace Cart.” A Makerspace Cart combines all facets of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) by allowing students in grades 5th and 6th to build, invent, tinker, design and solve problems using higher level thinking skills in a designated area. The self-directed environment created for students includes, but is not limited to, reverse engineering, technology exploration, architectural design and art.
“Our students are going to benefit greatly from this donation. STEM education is crucial for these students because their career interests are starting to take shape,” says Stacey Hughes, Stem Specialist for K-6th grade students, “Now we have the resources for them to explore their curiosities in an interactive space. It will involve all students in the building, providing access to 21st Century skills needed in the real world.”
