Enriching Education
in the Wyomissing Area School District

Learn What We’re About

The Wyomissing Area Education Foundation (WAEF) was formed in 1995 by a group of residents from West Reading, Wyomissing and Wyomissing Hills. These founders envisioned the Foundation as a vehicle for channeling private dollars and support into a broad range of programs for students and residents of the Wyomissing Area School District.

In the years since its formation, the Wyomissing Area Education Foundation has seen its support base grow to over 800 individuals and businesses contributing to support our grants and scholarship programs.

WAEF’s beginning in 1995 held great importance to Wyomissing Area for many reasons, most importantly to create new opportunities for education, and also to enhance the culture of a school district known for excellence in education. In the last 10 years, economic changes have altered the approach to achieve this goal. WAEF has taken many strides forward on supplementing curriculum costs in order to provide a top-rated education to all students. WAEF Grants and Scholarships have provided an avenue to respond to this need. All WAEF grant proposals are faculty-initiated and reviewed by its Grants & Scholarship committee to ensure that educational impact of the contributions is maximized. Private and business donations, as well as EITC program funding supports ongoing grant requests and scholarships. Over the past two decades, WAEF has provided $ 367,196.41 in grant awards to Wyomissing Area’s three campuses: the Wyomissing Hills Elementary Center (grades K – 4), the West Reading Elementary Center (grades 5-6), and the Wyomissing Area Junior Senior High School (grades 7 – 12). Through the support of our generous donors, WAEF has been able to support new technology and innovative instruction in all classrooms throughout the district.

WAEF provides endowed grant/scholarship opportunities for students, having twelve endowed grant/scholarship funds at this time. WAEF also provides other scholarship opportunities, including student scholarships for trade and technology education. WAEF’s Community Events include over 100 events for Wyomissing residents, alumni, parents, students, teachers and staff.

WAEF’s fundraising efforts consist of the Annual Campaign, The Toast events, support from area businesses via Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program (EITC), and privately endowed funds.

Since 2014, WAEF has presented a Distinguished Alumni Award to a graduate of the Wyomissing or West Reading School systems; recognized as a person of strong moral and ethical character; who demonstrates outstanding professional success; a record of involvement and support of activities within the WASD schools; a commitment to education, students, and/or youth; a history of generously donating his/her time, talents or treasures to social programs, non-profit organizations and/or community activities; or has a history of involvement with non-profit organizations.
