Did you know that the students at WREC are using Gizmo Online Simulations as an educational tool to help drive conceptual understanding math and science in grades 3-12? This was made possible by a grant funded by WAEF.

Polar A360 Strapless Heart Monitors | $4,565.70
Senior high school students will have the ability to focus – and be graded – on “healthy movement” in their targeted heart rate zone during gym class through the purchase of 25 A360 Polar Heart Rate Monitors, Polar Go-Fit Online Software and virtual online training for physician education staff that affects approximately 300 students.

Romeo & Juliet Performance by the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Company | $1450
With WAEF’s continued support of Pennsylvania Shakespeare Traveling Troupe, all students in grades 9-12 enjoyed a performance of Romeo & Juliet by the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Company. This fun, unabridged performance compliments the WASD curriculum for all students studying Romeo & Juliet.

Public Workshop Mural Grant @ WASD | $2,000.00
This grant will fund two murals, one mural to be done at the STEAM Summer Academy and the second to be done in the Public Art Workshop this fall.

Osmo for iPad @ WHEC| $870.00
This grant will bring hands on STEM activities to the 4th grade classroom. A student portfolio will document the progress of each student on this program. The Osmo for iPad upgrade project would help bring hands on STEM activities into the 4th grade classroom.

Writer in Residence @JSHS | $1500.00
This grant provides a writer in residence, Andrew Kaucher, who will assist students with writing projects, writing remediation, and cross-curricular writing beginning in the 3rd quarter the school year. The residency will include an extensive multi-genre project.

Music Recording devices @ JSHS | $1151.49
This grant allows the ensembles to record, listen to, and reflect upon what they are playing. The devices allow students to listen to how they sound in rehearsal; they will be able to reflect on what they are doing well, and what they need to improve upon.

Public Workshop Mural @ JSHS | $1500.00
This grant request supports the Public Art Workshop students (nearly 50 students), working together with the Berks County Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, to help to create a mural to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the organization. .

Laser Cutter/Engraver | $12,695.00
This grant provides laser/cutter engraver equipment to create a wide range of complex projects. Career readiness is also enhanced because of the hands-on nature of the work. This grant was funded in part by a grant from Schneider Electric and an EITC grant.

Reading is Our Thing Grant @ WHEC | $1,196.42
This grant allows for the expansion of the books awarded to one book per classroom each month. This repeat grant continues to provide classic literature to all children, promoting the joy of reading as a daily goal. This grant was partially funding from the Anne McCullough Fund through WAEF.

Maker Space Cart @ WREC | $11, 360.11
The grant provides a Maker Cart for the Maker Space program. The program combines all facets of STEM by allowing students to build, invent, tinker, design and solve problems using higher level thinking skills in a designated space. The portable cart takes the building 'on the road', allowing for multiple classes to use the equipment. This grant was funded in part by the L.O.V.E. Team of West Reading.

Standing desks and stools @ JSHS| $1500.00
This grant provides 3 standing desks and 3 stools to be used in an English classroom. Approximately 130 students, from 8th through 12th grade will have the option to use this desk throughout the school year.

Climbing Wall Additions @ WHEC | $5544.00
This grant adds two new additions to the rock climbing wall in the Wyomissing Hills Elementary Center, including a Safari Walking Plank and Web.
