Scholarship Applications

​​Each year, WAEF awards scholarships to talented students and community members through a thoughtful and rigorous review process overseen by WAEF's Grants & Scholarships Committee. 

 

Applications for the Class of 2024 are now closed.

The deadline to apply was Friday 3/1/2024 at 11:59 pm.

​

The Board of Directors of WAEF is pleased to offer these scholarships to graduating seniors - and two adults - in the Wyomissing Area School District.  Please click on the link for each scholarship application to read more about its eligibility requirements. 

​

All scholarship applicants are required to submit ONE cover sheet, regardless of the number of scholarships for which you are applying. 

Applicants may apply for as many scholarships for which they are eligible.  

​

All applications will be reviewed by WAEF's Scholarship Selection Committee at a meeting in April;

there is no advantage to submitting your applications early.  

Applications submitted after the deadline will not be reviewed.

The Class of 1946 Memorial Scholarship  $1,500

This scholarship will be awarded to a meritorious member of the senior class who has shown academic and leadership potential in both school and community.  Applicants are evaluated based on school activities, academic record and community service.  

 

The Class of 1959 Memorial Scholarship $2,100  

This scholarship will be awarded to the senior with the most improved GPA between 9th and 12th grades.  Since the winner is determined by a mathematical computation, no application is required. 

 

The Class of 1963 First Generation College Student Scholarship $1,100

This scholarship will be awarded to a senior who demonstrates academic excellence, is the first in his/her family to attend a two or four-year college, and has financial need.

 

The Amin Family Scholarships – 5 Scholarships @ $2,000 each

This scholarship will be awarded to a senior at Wyomissing Area High School who will pursue post-secondary education either at a 4-year or 2-year college or trade and technology school and has financial need.

 

The Amin Family Nursing Scholarship $1,000

This scholarship will be awarded to a senior at Wyomissing Area High School who has financial need and will pursue post-secondary education in a nursing program.

 

The Creighton Bieber Memorial Scholarship $500

This scholarship is given in memory of Creighton Bieber to an applicant who has experienced personal hardship, has financial need, and is inspired to pursue post-secondary education.

 

The Customers Bank Trade and Technology Scholarships - 2 Scholarships @ $2,000 each

This scholarship will be awarded to one or two senior students who have shown academic progress and who will enroll in a post-secondary technology/trade program.  The fund will also help secondary students cover the cost of vocational program tuition.

The Sean M. Flannery Memorial Scholarship $2,000

This scholarship will be awarded to a senior who demonstrates leadership, has been rostered on a varsity sport and is in good academic and disciplinary standing.  Also, the candidate must be elected or appointed to a leadership role in sports, in school, or in the community during their junior and/or senior year.

The James R. Houck Memorial Scholarship $1,000

This scholarship will be awarded to a senior interested in pursuing a degree in business and/or leadership. 

 

The Koullias Family Scholarship $1,000

This scholarship will be awarded to a senior planning to study Electrical Engineering, Math or Sciences in college.  Applicants should demonstrate proficiency in math and science through their course elections and grades.  

 

The Samuel R. Kozloff Memorial Scholarship $4,200

This scholarship will be awarded to a senior who has demonstrated expanding interest and progressive accomplishment in the areas of social studies or foreign languages through his or her HS curriculum as well as community service.

The Luyben Arts Scholarship $1,000

This scholarship is awarded to the student who has demonstrated improvement and accomplishment in the area of Music and/or the Performing Arts throughout his or her HS career at Wyomissing Area High School, and is planning to attend a post high school education program or college.  Scholarship student to be considered from the candidates recommended by the High School Music Department educators. The WAEF Scholarship Selection Committee will then select the winning student.

 

The Gertrude K. McGonigle Scholarship  $1,550

This scholarship will be awarded to an adult age 24+ with financial need who either resides in or is employed by the Wyomissing Area School District and is re-entering education after at least a 1 year lapse in time.

 

The Dr. Nirav Patel Memorial Scholarship $1,200

This scholarship will be awarded to a senior who has shown perseverance in coping with an ongoing medical condition, who has good academic and disciplinary standing, and is planning to attend a post-high school education program.

 

The John B. Stevens III & Beverly Sheetz-Stevens Memorial Scholarships - 2 scholarships @ $1,700 each 

These two scholarships will be awarded to seniors who are planning to continue their education in the field of business and/or art.  The scholarships were made possible by the donors' generous estate gift to WAEF for this purpose.  

 

The West Reading High School Alumni Scholarship $1,700

This scholarship will be awarded to a meritorious senior who is a resident of the Borough of West Reading.  The applicant will demonstrate financial need and write a short essay to answer the question “What has living in West Reading meant to me?”.

The William "Doc" Dowling Memorial Scholarship $2,000

This new scholarship will be awarded to a student who demonstrates both proficiency in and dedication to the sciences and intends to pursue a college education in the fields of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Physics, Nuclear Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.  This application will become available in early 2022.  

 

The Women’s Club of Wyomissing Scholarship $1,350

This scholarship will be awarded to a senior who has performed outstanding service to school and community, and demonstrated academic excellence and financial need.  

 

The Wyomissing Scholarship $850

This scholarship will be awarded to an adult learner (age 25+) entering or returning to higher education after completing high school or equivalent at least 12 months prior.  The winner must reside in or work for the Wyomissing Area School District and express financial need.
